Yes, it definitely snowed yesterday. And we had some accumulation, which really kind of surprised me. Usually these snows don't stick around.
As I type this, it's 25° in Boulder, but with the sun shining it's a gorgeous day. (The sun shines a lot here, which is one reason I love living right here on the edge of the mountains.)
So I turned to Google to look up when the earliest snowfall in Boulder might have been, at least in modern recorded history, and I naturally found NOAA, which is based in Boulder. NOAA has some interesting little factoids about this.
The latest last snow of the season was June 7, 2003. I remember driving through an early June snow squall a couple years before that, which gave me just a little in shock, like, Is that snow? Huh???
Most interesting, though, are the stats on the earliest snow of the season in Boulder:
earliest day of 1st snow: Sep 12 (1974)
latest day: Nov 15 (1962,1987,1988)
average: Oct 16
Look at that! The latest first snow is mid-November. And the long and short of it is that yesterday's snow was actually later than average. Next year, who knows? Maybe Labor Day?
